1 1/2 years later

I just clicked on this blog spot and realize I've not written a thing since Jan. 2010. That's because I started working again. Until June of 2010 I was essentially an aide at Ingleside Middle School, helping the non-English speakers learn and understand 7th and 8th grade math, science, social studies and English. As rewarding as it was, and as relieved as I felt to work after such a long  hiatus from my December 2008 layoff, my heart still thudded for journalism, and I picked up the job hunt for a return to my field.
Reporting is a perfect job for me, fulfilling me, challenging me, stimulating me, setting me ever on a larning curve, enthralling and outraging me, frustrating and elating me. It is all encompassing and provides so many levels of gratification and satisfaction.
I wound up with two job offers simultaneously, and accepted a return to my old newspaper in an even older position, one I had not held in 20 years: That of reporter. I hit the ground running and am still on the go, and have neglected Merrill's Ramblings.
As it turned out, SB 1070, the Arizona law that limits the rights of immigrants, sounded the near-death knell for the English Immersion program at Ingleside. Many of the participants moved south of the border again with their families in fear of repercussions of the law.
